Tulips

There about 100 species of tulip, native to southern Europe, north Africa, and Asia. They are perennial bulbous plants growing to 10-70 cm tall with large flowers with six tepals. Besides being the national flower of Iran and Turkey, tulips are closely associated with the Netherlands, so much so that the term "Dutch tulips" is often used for the cultivated forms.

Roses are one of the most popular garden shrubs, and are also among the most common flowers sold by florists. The hips are sometimes eaten, mainly for their vitamin C content. They are usually pressed and filtered to make rose hip syrup, as the fine hairs surrounding the seeds are unpleasant to eat (resembling itching powder).

Blooming Sunflowers

The oil extracted from Sunflower seeds, is used for cooking, as a carrier oil and is used to produce biodiesel. The meal remaining after the seeds have been processed for oil is used as a livestock feed. Some recently developed varieties have drooping heads. These varieties are less attractive to gardeners growing the flowers as ornamental plants, but appeal to farmers, because they reduce bird damage and losses from some plant diseases.
